Raquel De Paz:

I started attending events for Women of Prosperous Hearts when I was 19 years old. My friend Karla invited me because WOPH started a mentor program for young women like myself.

The first thing I noticed I was able to gain insight into how different others saw the world. I grew up with a family who was scared of taking chances and risks because of the uncertainty it would bring. Being able to sit at a table filled with women who came from similar backgrounds or upbringing and took the risks and came out successfully. For so long I aimed for a 9 am-5 pm job that I probably would get tired of eventually. Thanks to WOPH I exposed myself to an open mindset and for the first time, I have done things like run my own business and get out of my comfort zone to become successful and not have to worry about everything my mother worried about.

I was able to meet the very inspiring Dr. Pat Allen PhD, at one of the Women of Prosperous Heart’s events for young women. Everyone had the chance to ask Pat Allen for romantic or dating advice. I could not believe what she was able to bring out of people. It was a really moving experience! Pat was really able to help me understand how to approach arguments with a partner who is my now husband! It was an amazing lesson that I pull techniques from all the time. I appreciate the Women of Prosperous Hearts group for having this event. It gave me insight, I may never have had. Sunna also brought in a great lunch, and provide a great space for the day!”
